The UCR Faculty and Staff Wellness Program does not endorse one specific weight loss program but provides the information and resources so that individuals can choose what will work best for their situation and needs.

With regular physical activity and healthy eating habits, people can control their weight and reduce the chances of developing serious, chronic health conditions, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers. Small changes can make a difference.

On-Line Resources

Consuming the right amount of calories each day depends on a person’s age, gender, and activity level. For further information on what an average adult should eat each day visit the Sample USDA Food Guide and the DASH Eating.

The USDA Dietary Guidelines provides basic guidelines for eating a healthy diet and being physically active.

MyPyramid.gov is new food pyramid released by the USDA where you can tailor caloric needs to physical activity and find tips about how to incorporate nutritious foods into meals.

The American Dietetic Association provides Nutrition Fact Sheets and access to local registered dieticians.

The Center for Disease Control introduced the new 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans for optimal health benefits

The American Council on Exercise provides access to locating an ACE certified professional,
exercise library, healthy recipes, and fact sheets.
